The Supreme Court considers transferring on January 15 petitions challenging the CLAT-2025 results to the Punjab and Haryana High Court. These petitions currently span multiple High Courts, including Delhi, Karnataka, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Bombay, Madhya Pradesh, and Punjab & Haryana.
SC Considers Consolidation Of CLAT-2025 Cases
A bench of Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna and Justice PV Sanjay Kumar heard transfer petitions filed by the Consortium of National Law Universities. The Consortium sought the consolidation and transfer of cases to either the Supreme Court or a specific High Court for efficient resolution.
CJI Khanna stated that transferring the cases to a single High Court would ensure a faster and unified resolution. He noted the first petition was filed at the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which has a strong disposal rate. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta initially suggested the Karnataka High Court, but the bench leaned toward the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Students Advocate For Delhi High Court
Lawyers representing students requested the transfer to the Delhi High Court. Thus, citing its earlier ruling that two CLAT-UG 2025 answers were incorrect. However, CJI Khanna humorously remarked, “Law students should not fold their hands,” as he rejected the plea.
SC Issues Notice For February Hearing
The Supreme Court issued notices to counsels from different High Courts. The matter is set for a hearing in the first week of February 2025.
Background On CLAT-2025 Disputes
In December 2024, the Delhi High Court found errors in the CLAT-UG answer key. They directed the Consortium to revise results. The Supreme Court also previously directed petitioners to approach the High Courts instead of directly challenging the CLAT-PG 2025 answer key.
