How To Apply For A Passport Renewal In India

Here are the key steps to apply for a passport renewal in India:

Online Form Submission

  1. Register through the Passport Seva Online Portal and login with your registered ID.
  2. Click the “Apply for Fresh Passport/Re-issue of Passport” link.
  3. Fill in the required details in the online form and submit.
  4. Click the “Pay and Schedule Appointment” link on the “View Saved/Submitted Applications” screen to schedule an appointment.
  5. Make the online payment using credit/debit card, internet banking or SBI bank challan.
  6. Click the “Print Application Receipt” link to print the application receipt with the Application Reference Number (ARN)/Appointment Number.
  7. Visit the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) where the appointment has been booked, along with original documents.
  8. In case of minor applicants below 4 years, carry a recent passport size photograph (4.5 X 3.5 cm) with white background.

Note that carrying a printout of the Application Receipt is no longer required, as an SMS with appointment details is accepted as proof. Applicants must resubmit the application form if they do not visit the PSK within 90 days of submitting the online form.

The documents required for passport reissue vary based on the applicant category (minor/adult), employment type, and whether the present address is different from the existing passport. Applicants should refer to the Document Advisor on the Passport Seva website to check the specific documents required for their case.
